January 2, 2007--Gunnison Water District Members Voice Concern of Pending Bill (Grand Junction Daily Sentinel)

Members of the Gunnison River Water Conservancy District are not happy about plans to study pumping water out of Blue Mesa Reservoir to the Front Range. Currently, there is a pending bill that would set aside $500,000 to evaluate water projects, including tapping Blue Mesa Reservoir.


December 28, 2006--Corps to Send River Project Permit (Pagosa Springs SUN)

A permit to begin phase two of the Town of Pagosa Springs' San Juan River Restoration Project remains pending, but the US Army Corps of Engineers anticipates the permit's arrival at town offices soon.


January 4, 2007--Pecan Growers Say Nuts to Water Plan (Denver Post)

Rules proposed by the New Mexico State Engineer that would cap water use for farmers during dry years have members of a New Mexico water district upset claiming the dry-year limitations are far short of what's needed. The State Engineer released the draft regulation in November and has said they're needed to ensure that the state has enough water to meet its downstream delivery obligations.

December 29, 2006: Southwestern Water Conservation District to Acquire Water Rights (Durango Herald)

The Southwestern Water Conservation District, apparently unable to persuade the city of Durango to reduce the amount of water it wants for a kayak course on the Animas River, moved Thursday to acquire water rights itself.


December 29, 2006: Bush Signs Rural Water Bill (Durango Herald)

Legislation that aims to help rural communities establish reliable water services has been signed into law by President Bush. The bill allows communities to receive help with their water planning and infrasturcure. The Rural Water Supply Act directs the U.S. Interior Department, through the Bureau of Reclamation, to establish a program to plan, design and construct rural water-supply projects.
