July 17, 2007--Water rights agreement within sight (Grand Junction Daily Sentinel)
Gunnison Basin water users and the state may be within days of reaching an agreement about stipulations in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park water-right-quantification dispute. “We’re at such a delicate stage, I’m reluctant to comment,” Ken Spann, an attorney for the Gunnison County Stockgrowers Association, said Monday. “We’re hoping to get something accomplished in the next 72 hours, and quite frankly, I don’t want to blow it up.” At issue are stipulations Gunnison Basin water users signed in 2003 that said Black Canyon National Park’s 1933 water right would yield to the water rights of others whose rights date from between 1933 and 1957 and the rights of the Aspinall Unit.
