July 3, 2007--Black Canyon water trial date set (Grand Junction Daily Sentinel)

The state and federal governments missed a June 29 deadline to resolve the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park water right quantification dispute, and now the matter may be headed for trial. Gunnison County Attorney Dave Baumgarten, who has been part of months-long negotiations in the case, said the trial is set for sometime in the summer of 2009. Baumgarten said “little, if any” progress has been made in getting the state to listen to Gunnison Basin water users’ concerns about the potential for the national park to call water away from them.
