July 7, 2007--Jackson Gulch--Congress should fund canal repairs (Cortez Journal)

Colorado's senators, Ken Salazar and Wayne Allard, have introduced legislation that would authorize more than $6 million to pay for rehabilitation of the canal that delivers water to and from Jackson Gulch Dam above Mancos. The canal is 60 years old. It was not built to current standards. It has deteriorated significantly in recent years, and it is threatened by landslides that also restrict access to it. Write letters to congressmen. Make phone calls in support of the legislation--it will keep the lifeblood of the Mancos Valley flowing.
