July 8, 2007--Jackson Gulch canal repairs (Durango Herald)

Colorado's U.S. senators, Ken Salazar and Wayne Allard, have introduced legislation that would authorize more than $6 million to pay for rehabilitation of the canal that delivers water to and from Jackson Gulch Dam above Mancos. The canal is 60 years old. It was not built to current standards. It has deteriorated significantly in recent years, and it is threatened by landslides that also restrict access to it. It cannot handle all the water the Mancos Water Conservancy District is entitled to divert - water the Mancos Valley has a right to use.
