June 3, 2007--Big water, big challenge (Durango Herald)
A spike of nearly 1,000 cubic feet per second in the flow of the Animas River on Friday scared off all but the most dedicated kayakers for the Animal River Days slalom competition...The Animas surged from 2,780 cfs to more than 3,600 cfs before the start of the race. Five years ago, the flow was just 696 cfs.
