March 21, 2007--Glass-bottom deck debuts 4,000 feet above Grand Canyon Floor (Grand Junction Daily Sentinel)
The Hualapai Indian Reservation (AZ) unveiled a million-pound, steel-and-glass "Skywalk" that extends 70 feet beyond the Grand Canyon's edge. With a floor of glass, the horse-shoe-shaped observation deck gives visitors a dizzying view as if they're floating 4,000 feet above the canyon floor. The massive deck is anchored deep into a limestone cliff...To one side, the Colorado River appears as a slim, pea-green ribbon. To the other, people can see a triangular dip in the canyon's ridge, known as Eagle Point.
