November 8, 2007--Senate overrides veto, enacts water bill into law (WaterTech Online)

Enacting the first federal water-projects bill into law in six years, the Senate on November 8 overrode President Bush’s veto of the $23 billion bill, joining similar action earlier this week by the House of Representatives. It was the first override of a presidential veto since Bush became president. He vetoed no bills during his first five years in office, when his own Republican Party controlled both houses of Congress. Since Democrats have taken control in Congress, he has vetoed five bills, but the last congressional override of a veto had occurred in 1998, the second of two overrides in the Clinton administration.
