December 3, 2007--Breaking the septic silence--waste disposal finally on the table (Telluride News)

Where, exactly, can you hide 400,000 gallons of septage? The answer may not be pretty. Thinking about septic disposal may not be attractive either, but for those who choose to ignore this “underground” issue, unpleasant surprises may be in store. One who can’t afford to ignore septic issues is Tom Cronk, President of CB Industries in Delta — one of two facilities in the region licensed to accept septic waste. “Septage treatment facilities must be licensed and permitted by the Colorado Department of Health (CDOH),” Cronk explained. “Cities usually have municipal waste treatment facilities, but that’s the rub — cities have them, and septage is usually a rural, county problem.” To focus more attention on septic issues, West Montrose Sanitation District Director Randy See has organized a task force of municipal waste facilities and septic haulers to explore both federal regulations and professional standards for those who work with septic waste.
