December 26, 2007--Holiday delivers powder (Grand Junction Daily Sentinel)
The storm that dropped a whopping 27 inches of snow on the Grand Mesa resort from Christmas Eve and Christmas not only thrilled skiers but helped earn Grand Junction the title of the wettest December on record, according to the National Weather Service. As of Wednesday morning, precipitation in Grand Junction had increased to 1.99 inches — nearly five times December’s average of 0.40. December 2006 saw 0.37 inches of precipitation. Grand Junction’s previous precipitation record of 1.89 inches was set in December 1951. The 27 new inches of snow also will help Grand Junction by increasing snowpack for the city’s water supply on Grand Mesa.
