January 8, 2008--Report prepared on possibility of upper Green River dam (Denver Post)
The Wyoming Water Development Commission has prepared a report on the pros and cons of building a reservoir in the upper Green River Basin. The proposed dam would be built about 60 miles south of Jackson in Sublette County. State officials say more water storage is needed for farmers and basin towns including Pinedale, Big Piney and Boulder, which are growing due to a gas boom. The report said building a dam would take considerable time, a hard-to-get construction permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and around $250 million to $400 million. Wyoming uses only 2.8 million of the 4 million or so acre-feet of water to which it is entitled under water use compacts with neighboring states.
