January 31, 2008--Platte River recovery program approved (Greeley Tribune)

A U.S. Senate committee has approved a measure to implement the federal share of the Platte River recovery implementation plan. An agreement that led to the plan, designed to benefit certain species while allowing for continued water use and development along the river, was signed in 2006 by governors in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska, then introduced by U.S. Senators from Colorado and Nebraska. In a joint press release from Sens. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., Ken Salazar, D-Colo., Ben Nelson, D-Neb., and Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., Allard said the measure, approved by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee “aims to address one of the most pressing needs in the West, ensuring that the Endangered Species Act does not stop our most precious natural resource from flowing.”
