February 14, 2008--Feds: Companies must prevent tainted water from reaching homes (Denver Post)
Companies responsible for dumping a potentially cancer-causing solvent decades ago into Scottsdale-area water supplies must come up with options to prevent contaminated water from reaching homes, according to federal authorities. The direction from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is in response to situations in October and January in which water contaminated with trichloroethylene got into the water supply for nearly 5,000 customers of Arizona American Water Co. in Paradise Valley and Scottsdale. The chemical is commonly known as TCE.
