February 24, 2008--Snow melt expected to cause problems along the Animas (Farmington Daily Times)
Aztec Mayor Mike Arnold is extremely worried about a ticking time bomb that's upstream from his community. His concerns center on effects this spring's snow melt might have on the city of 6,378, especially if the snowpack, now at 160 percent of normal, that the Animas River carries down, melts quickly.Aztec has fought high water and localized flooding problems before — the last being spring 2005, when the snowpack was about 130 percent of normal.
