March 4, 2008--Bills to fund water projects flowing (Sterling Journal-Advocate)
The annual funding bills needed to channel money into Colorado water projects began their journey through the legislative process at the same time District 1 Sen. Greg Brophy ended his bill calling for the drainage of Bonny Reservoir. The funding bills include $1 million continued development of the South Platte River Decision Support System, $7.58 million for endangered species programs on the South Platte, $2 million for the Chatfield Reservoir reallocation project, and a $60.6 million loan for a Republican River Compact compliance pipeline. Brophy, R-Wray, said his Senate Bill 28 was intended to send a message to the Department of Natural Resources that something had to be done about the evaporative losses from the lake that are charged against Colorado’s consumptive use of the Republican River.
