March 24, 2008--Pipeline project makes waves outside county (Pueblo Chieftain)

Communities upstream and downstream of Pueblo would be affected by a proposal to put a pipeline from Pueblo Dam to Colorado Springs. Fremont County could see essentially the same project running through its back yard, while downstream users will continue to see impacts on water quality that some say aren’t fully taken into account by the Bureau of Reclamation’s draft environmental impact statement on the Southern Delivery System. The Southern Delivery System is a $1.1 billion plan by Colorado Springs to pump water from Pueblo Dam through a 66-inch-diameter pipeline 43 miles north. Security, Fountain and Pueblo West are partners in the plan. Pueblo West only would participate if the pipeline comes from the dam.
