April 3, 2008--RiGHT wins $1.5 million CWCB grant (Mineral County Miner)

The Colo-rado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) voted unanimously March 19 to award the Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust (RiGHT) $1.5 million in funds from the Water Supply Reserve Account (WSRA) for their Rio Grande Initiative. The WSRA funds were allocated by the Legislature for the state’s Basin Round Tables’ projects. The Rio Grande Basin Round Table also voted unanimous support of the Rio Grande Initiative at their January 2008 meeting. RiGHT is the local land trust in the San Luis Valley and is working to protect private land with senior surface rights through conservation easements along the Rio Grande as part of the Initiative. This award, drawing $200,000 from the Rio Grande Basin’s allotted funds and $1.3 million from the statewide account, will provide matching funds to the $7.4 million Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Legacy award received in December 2007.
