April 23, 2008--State sends $1M for water project (Alamosa News)

Alamosa on Wednesday received a million-dollar promise from the state to help build a new water storage tank, a need that was accelerated by the city’s recent water emergency. Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) Executive Director Susan Kirkpatrick confirmed on Wednesday that the state approved $1 million from energy/mineral impact funds to help build a new water storage tank. Alamosa Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director Don Koskelin said a new water tank was in the city’s five-year plan but the recent water issue rapidly moved that project up in the city’s priority list. “We have known we have had to expand our water storage,” he said. “This is a very real and immediate need. It was exacerbated because of this recent problem.” He said the state’s $1 million grant would go a long way toward building the estimated $2.5 million storage tank.
