May 17, 2008--SE district joins Front Range 'superpower' (Pueblo Chieftain)

The valley’s largest water conservancy district voted Thursday to formally join a consortium of the largest water importers in the state despite objections from two board members. In a 12-2 vote, the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District voted to join the Front Range Water Council, a group that has been meeting on a staff level since December 2004. The council, which also includes the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, Denver Water, Aurora, Colorado Springs Utilities, Pueblo Board of Water Works and Twins Lakes Reservoir and Canal Co., exists to provide a unified front for major water importers. The other entities already have voted to join. The largest diversions from the West Slope to the Front Range in the state are controlled by the seven entities. Membership is not exclusive and other importers could join in the future.
