June 12, 2008--Log Lane Village generator relocation to ease effluent issues (Fort Morgan Times)

Members of the Log Lane Village Board of Trustees believe they have found a cheaper solution to the town’s effluent overflow problem. Each time the power goes off, a small tank at the lift station overflows into the lagoons, said Mayor Chuck Lakatos. Each time that happens, town officials must call the state health department, spread lines to prevent contamination and maintain pH levels, and fill out the associated paperwork, he said. One solution previously discussed was to obtain a grant to line the lagoons to hold the overflow water, he said, and pump it back into the lift station when the power comes back on.The trustees unanimously voted Wednesday to move a town generator from the Pine Street well house to the lift station. The generator would automatically turn on when the power goes off, Lakatos said, preventing the spills altogether.
