July 15, 2008--Dunes water right question goes to trial (Alamosa Valley Courier)
The federal government’s right to the water under the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve will be the subject of a trial beginning July 28 in Alamosa. In the process of transforming the national monument into a national park and preserve several years ago, numerous attorneys worked to find a way in which the federal government through the National Park Service could obtain a water right to protect the national park but at the same time avoid conflicts with existing water use permits throughout the San Luis Valley, Rio Grande Water Conservation District Attorney David Robbins explained. He was one of the attorneys who worked with the government to develop the wording.
