July 15, 2008--Water sub-district costs mount (Alamosa Valley Courier)

While water management sub-districts in the San Luis Valley will eventually cost the farmers who participate in them, the sponsoring Rio Grande Water Conservation District is struggling with the initial expenses of establishing them. Rio Grande Water Conservation District (RGWCD) Manager Steve Vandiver told the board during its quarterly meeting on Tuesday that the district has spent $325,000 in the last 3-4 years, and he and District Engineer Allen Davey estimated it would require another $260,000 worth of work to get the first sub-district operational assuming the district is successful with an October trial over objections to the first sub-district management plan.
