July 16, 2008--Council gets clearer view of water future (Sterling Journal Advocate)
The Sterling City Council is inching closer to deciding on a course of action to deal with the city’s water quality problem. In the last two years, the city of Sterling has been notified of at least two water quality violations. The violations are of trihalomethanes and uranium. In both accounts, the amount of contaminants in the water had not changed as much as the maximum contaminant level (MCL). However, even that does not mean the problem will go away. The state health department is encouraging the city to find a process that will remove the contaminants. The good news is the city is not yet being told the problem must be fixed tomorrow. The bad news is the longer the city waits, the more expensive it will be.
