July 17, 2008--Runoff slows, still staves off severe drought (Pueblo West View)
Spring runoff has tapered off, with flows settling down on both sides of the Continental Divide. Still, there should be plenty of water available for farms and cities in the Arkansas Valley, as water continues to move through transmountain diversion tunnels. That’s good news, as drought conditions persist on the Eastern Plains. "If it wasn’t for the snowpack, the drought conditions in the Arkansas Valley would be much worse," said Roy Vaughan of the Pueblo Bureau of Reclamation office. "Everything is continuing to drop."
