October 29, 2008--SLV groundwater-pumping trial opens (Pueblo Chieftain)

Opening arguments in a trial that may determine how groundwater pumping will proceed in the San Luis Valley were presented Monday in Division 3 Water Court. Supporters of a groundwater subdistrict, formed under the auspices of the Rio Grande Water Conservancy District, submitted their water management plan to the court, calling it the most economic and expedient way to manage groundwater pumping, while protecting the state's water deliveries under the Rio Grande Compact and any senior water rights injured by groundwater pumping.
