January 22, 2009--Town's water future in court's hands (Telluride Daily Planet)
The town of Telluride has been working for years on a plan to secure plentiful water by tapping Blue Lake, piping the water down Bridal Veil basin to a plant at the end of the box canyon and dispersing it to its denizens. Idarado Mining Company owns much of the land and senior water rights involved in the town’s plan to build this water system, and disputes that arose between the two during negotiations resulted in the town suing Idarado, and the mining company responding with a countersuit. The town and Idarado wrapped up a two-week trial late last week in Montrose that saw the two bodies battling over water and infrastructure rights, contractual language and water quality.
