June 11, 2009--Water projectr funding flows to town (Norwood Post)
Norwood’s Town Administrator Patti Grafmyer is ecstatic. The celebratory mood at town hall is owing to the news that Grafmyer’s grant request for $540,000 to repair the municipal water infrastructure has been fully funded. The town’s water system has been in dire need of repair for years, and the public works department that operates the treatment plant has struggled to keep the drinking water in compliance with state standards. Norwood’s water commission has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars upgrading the decades-old system, but the treated water is still frequently contaminated with disinfection byproducts. The ARRA funding will allow the town to rehabilitate the 5,000-gallon tank, start chloramination (chlorine and ammonia) treatment of the water and upgrade a pressure reducing valve.
