Fred Kroeger Retires From SWCD Board
After 55 years of service, Fred Kroeger has officially stepped down from the Board of the Southwestern Water Conservation District (SWCD). As he stated, “I’m ready to let others take the lead.” After all, he’s seen his life's work culminate when water began filling Lake Nighthorse. Though the project lost the irrigation component that Kroeger wanted badly to provide residents of La Plata County's Dryside, he's proud of A-LP's legacy of honoring neglected treaties between tribes and the federal government. Friends and
colleagues describe him as, “a man driven to protect agricultural interests in the area and oblivious to party identifications.” Attorney Sam Maynes, Jr. stated, "Fred's contributed more to the community than anyone else I know. He's a selfless person who's given of himself for many years." The SWCD is grateful to Fred for his long years of dedication and service—he will be sorely missed!
