December 24, 2009--Colorado population grew at fourth-highest rate in U.S. (Denver Post)

Colorado's estimated population surpassed 5 million for the first time as the state grew at the fourth- highest rate in the country amid the worst recession in decades. U.S. Census Bureau estimates released Wednesday showed the state's population hit 5,024,748 in July, adding almost 90,000 people from last year. That was a 1.8 percent increase, ranking fourth nationally. The strong showing was not expected, given the economic downturn, officials said.
