Lake Nighthorse Update

The Animal-La Plata Water Conservancy District is in the process of soliciting bids to develop a master plan for recreation at Lake Nighthorse. They also agreed to support an application by the Animas La-Plata Water Conservancy District to the National Park Service (NPS) for the use of a recreation planner. While the NPS does not supply monetary support, they will provide the services of a recreation planner for up to two years. Plans are proceeding, too, for Farmington to sell Lake Nighthorse water to the Navajo Nation. The water will be delivered through a $6.2 million pipeline and water tank funded by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Under the agreement, Farmington will provide up to six million gallons of water daily, plus an additional two million gallons daily if the tribe requests it.
