National Water Trails System

On March 2nd Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced the National Water Trails System. It is a new network intended to increase access to water-based outdoor recreation, encourage community stewardship of local waterways, and promote tourism to strengthen local economies. Salazar signed a Secretarial Order that establishes the Trails System as a class under the National Trails System Act of 1968. "Rivers, lakes, and other waterways are the lifeblood of our communities, connecting us to our environment, our culture, our economy, and our way of life," said Salazar.
