August 3, 2007--Quake rattles Utah-Colorado border (Salt Lake Tribune)

The U.S. Geological Survey said seismographs measured a magnitude 2.8 earthquake at 7:46 a.m. Wednesday, August 3rd. A Bureau of Reclamation official said work he and some employees were doing in the area may have triggered the temblor. Facility operations specialist Andy Nicholas said his crew was extracting brine groundwater from Dolores River aquifers, then injecting it 14,000 feet into the ground to maintain the quality of water flowing into the Colorado River. Nicholas said he couldn't say for sure that his crew caused the quake.
