Connor Named Deputy Secretary of Interior

In late February the Senate confirmed the nomination of Michael Connor to be the Deputy Secretary of the Interior Department. Connor, a native New Mexican, has served as commissioner of Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation since 2009. He served in the department’s Solicitor’s Office from 1993 to 2001, and then was named director of the secretary’s Indian Water Rights Office. From 2001 until his appointment as commissioner, Connor served as counsel to the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Connor received his law degree from the University of Colorado Law School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from New Mexico State University and worked for General Electric for several years in the power generation services branch.
