WIP’s Participating Entity, SWCD, Update

At their February 2014 Board meeting the Southwestern Water Conservation District approved the following grant applications: 
  • Animas Valley Ditch & Water Company $30,000 for emergency repair of serious damage to the Animas Valley Ditch that occurred as a result of the severe thunder/hail storms on September 18 and 22, 2013 in the Animas Valley.
  • Colorado Foundation for Water Education $5,000 to support the publication of a Headwaters magazine issue focused on flooding and the new 2014 Citizen’s Guide focused on Transbasin Diversions.
  • Dolores River Dialogue $30,000 for operating funds for the Dolores River Dialogue, with Dolores Water Conservancy District acting as the fiscal agent.
  • Dolores Water Conservancy District $3,750 in support of 2014 operations and maintenance of the Slick Rock river gage while long-term funding is explored and secured.
  • Mancos Conservation District $15,000 for the Mancos River Diversion Project, which was designed to replace temporary streambed cobble “push-up” dams with permanent large quarry rock dams, which create the hydraulic lift in the river needed to access flows at the headgate
  • Red Mesa Reservoir & Ditch Company $30,000 in support of dam and spillway improvements and a reservoir enlargement feasibility study.
    San Miguel Watershed Coalition $16,000 for two projects: 1) the Tabeguache Creek Native Fish Barrier Removal Project and 2) the CCC Ditch Fish Ladder Repair.
