September 27, 2007--Denver Water hike is in pipeline (Denver Post)

Denver residents will pay about 5 percent more for their water next year under a rate structure approved Wednesday by the Denver Water Board. The rate increase will help raise an additional $9.7 million in revenue for system maintenance and upgrades. The average annual Denver residential bill, currently $280.12, would rise by about $13. "We're not trying to make a profit on the rates we charge our customers. We're charging to pay for the services we provide," said Denver Water finance director David LaFrance. In all, the added revenue will be used to upgrade water-treatment plants and infrastructure, possibly enlarge Gross Reservoir, expand conservation programs and bolster contingency reserves.
