October 8, 2007--Black Mountain gets more time to explain spill (Grand Junction Daily Sentinel)
Black Mountain Disposal, an oil and gas well wastewater disposal facility south of De Beque that experienced a leak from one of its impoundment ponds in 2001, has again been given more time to tell state authorities exactly what spilled, how much spilled and how it will be cleaned. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment granted Black Mountain Disposal until Nov. 1 to develop a groundwater remediation plan. The plan must include a full description of the size of the plume and an assessment of the possible sources “as originally requested during conversations on May 31, 2001, and in writing June 29, 2001, and numerous times subsequent, including the March 25, 2003, compliance advisory,” according to a Sept. 27 response letter to Black Mountain Disposal from Donna Stoner, an inspector with the Department of Public Health and Environment.
