October 18, 2007--Lower Arkansas district buys farmland on High Line Canal (Pueblo Chieftain)

The Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District purchased a 55-acre farm on the High Line Canal in Pueblo County and added three conservation easements to its portfolio of water investments Wednesday. The district will pay $180,000 for the farm, with the intention of keeping the land in agriculture, said General Manager Jay Winner. The farm comes with six shares of High Line Canal water. One share typically irrigates 10 acres on the ditch system. The district has purchased water rights on several other ditches in the valley as well as shares in Twin Lakes and the Larkspur Ditch, both of which bring water into the valley.
