November 2, 2007--State plan would pay for A-LP park (Durango Herald)

The state Department of Natural Resources announced plans Thursday to raise $3 million for a boat ramp and state park at Lake Nighthorse. The department offered a plan Thursday to funnel more money to state parks from taxes on oil and gas production. In the first year, $750,000 would go toward a boat ramp for the reservoir created by the Animas-La Plata Project south of Durango. The state is hoping for a $2.25 million contribution from the federal government, said Mike King, deputy director of the Department of Natural Resources. The reservoir is scheduled to begin filling in 2009, and the department has been looking for money for a boat ramp for months.
