August 31, 2016--Cloud-seeders get upgrade in mountains above Dolores (Cortez Journal)

A remote-operated cloud-seeding generator is being installed in the mountains above Dolores in an attempt to improve snowpack and runoff into McPhee Reservoir. The Dolores Water Conservancy District has partnered with the Idaho Power Co.

Drought is nothing new to the arid West. Vast swatches of Colorado burned in 2012-13, and California, Oregon and Washington are experiencing one of the worst fire seasons in history this year. In the Colorado River basin, Lake Mead is at the lowest levels since it first filled, while Lake Powell is approaching levels too low to generate power.

The Southwestern Water Conservation District (SWCD) hosted a Weather Modification Work Session on May 30th in Durango. Participants and presenters from both the Upper and Lower Basin States were in attendance. After welcome and introductions, Larry Hjermstad, with Western Weather Consultants (WWC) provided a 2012-2013 operations summary.

The Southwestern Water Conservation District (SWCD) will be hosting a Weather Modification Workshop on May 30, 2013 at the Durango Community Recreation Center. From 9:30 am to 11:30 am there will be a work session for participating entities to review the 2012-2013 season and discuss plans for 2013-2014.


December 7, 2012--New rules for Colorado’s cloud-seeding program (Summit Voice)

Colorado’s $1 million cloud-seeding program continues to expand, and under new rules adopted this past summer, the state and the water providers and ski areas who pay for the program hope to get a better idea if their efforts to boost snowfall are effective.
